Sixteen finalists have been chosen from over 400 original entries for the Guardian International Development Journalism competition. Each shortlisted writer will travel to a country in Africa or Asia for their final assignment: researching and writing an in-depth article on a theme such as maternal health or sanitation. The articles will appear in a special Guardian supplement in November.
Two overall winners, one professional and one amateur, will be announced at a special awards evening in November 2008.
The competition is run by Guardian Professional for the Guardian in association with the Department for International Development (DfID) and GSK and in partnership with:
- Marie Stopes International
- Camfed International
- International HIV/Aids Alliance
- HelpAge International
- Plan UK
